Summer is over and we are into October. Did some thinking back about where are .22 shooters come from, and the results are interesting:

  • Langley, Richmond, and North Vancouver (even Abbotsford?)
  • Some are Military, and others Police, taking their children shooting
  • Some are retired, bringing their grandchildren, others are complete families
  • Ages range from about 6 years old, to those in their 70’s.

I am also looking into other programs, particularly those with resources (books, posters, training, badges, certificates, etc.,) that can provide more encouragement to our shooters. The Shooting Federation of Canada has very limited resources compared to the NRA. We want the participants to have an enjoyable time with shooting sports, improving their skills, and receiving encouragement and rewards. Some are there just to shoot a few rounds, however others would benefit from a well-supported program – we need to accommodate both. When I coached at Custer, we were sponsored by the US Military Division of Civilian Marksmanship, who provided rifles and ammo free of charge.

Attendance in September was: Stat; 6, 10, and 3.

We are currently looking at another shooting time for Abbotsford Christian Schools in October; we have many church, youth, and club groups participating. Our largest was from a Christian Reformed Church Youth group with 51 attending.

Probably the most interesting event was some shooters from Richmond – one of them was the son of one of my former Scout Cubs – suddenly you feel old.
