I would like to start out by thanking Brian, Mann, Kevin and Kurt for their repeated help with the fish pond set-up, dismantle and general babysitting of the visiting guests at this year’s Open House. Too bad we could not have fed all the volunteers as we have in the past years with a quality BBQ.

Also I would like to thank Steve Arnold the Manager from GoFishBC Hatchery, who is going to retire this year end!

A special thanks to Redl Sports for prize donations and also the Abbotsford branch of KMS Tools for their generosity.

We will need to purchase a new pool liner from Intek as the old one now leaks! Whoever sets up next year needs to price one out. This is meant to record for budget purposes. Also a donation to Vye Road Hatchery needs to occur this year as they were neglected last season.

There are a good number of Chinook being hooked each morning on the Vedder, I have seen fish killed in both mid & upper river. Conditions are tough, low water combined with unusual clarity is causing fish to hold in fast & heavy water. These areas are at a premium so prepare for crowded conditions. Tackle is key now, use small hooks with wool and/or roe with leaders in excess of 36″.

The Upper Fraser is now open to bar fishing for Chinooks. Bottom bouncing has been suspended for the time being due to mortality rates of Stewart Run Sockeye. Using Spin-N-Glows and traditional float fishing will produce Pinks for you. Don’t overlook fly fishing, it’s a fun way to Angle.

Many of BC’s small water ways are closed to fishing due to water volume being low. Check your reg’s for closures, they are also available on Fisheries & Oceans Website.

Capilano, Seymour, Squamish & Mamquam Rivers are allowing a two Pink Salmon daily quota.

However tidal waters are producing Chinook and Pink Salmon in great numbers, check for Sockeye closures.

Thanks,
