Shooters, please note, there is no ATS for May and June; we’ve been superseded for a PPC event in May, and June is a paid training event.

A reminder for the AFG Open House, 11 July, this year.

ATS is hosting/staffing the Range 3 portion of the event, and I’m looking for a few more staff to assist with Range Officer functions. Please let me know soonest if you can assist.

A big “THANKS”, to the 30+ shooters we had out for Saturdays CQB shoot; excellent turnout, in spite of the long weekend and the IPSC matches up at Thompson. Everyone walked away with something from the prize table. A huge “THANKS..!!!” as well, to the sponsors – Lever Arms, CTCS, Wanstalls, and Dave’s Surplus; their support is very much appreciated!

Michelle, Kyle, and Ryan do a fantastic job of putting this event on.

04 July is the next CQB shoot date.

For those of you looking to expand your Service Rifle range horizons, and looking to make up for “PPC let down..” next weekend, there is a BCRA shoot, Sat 23/ Sun 24, out at Vokes Range, in Chilliwack. If you’re not a BCRA member, I’m sure memberships will be available, if you’ve got your paperwork in order. See http://bcrifle.org/ for the membership form and rates.

This is a GREAT venue to stretch that AR/M14/VZ platform out to 500m; the following weekend is the Service Pistol/ Service Rifle Provincial Championships, as well. See below, for excepts from the latest BCRA update.

BCRA Service Rifle Shooters

Lower Mainland Regional Service Rifle Championship is on Sunday, 24 May. We have scheduled a walk back practice for Saturday, 23 May commencing at 0900. Scheduling range time at Vokes has been difficult this year as we have had an increase in Military training time and the RCMP have scheduled the extensive carbine rifle course using 2 weeks a month until December. What range time we are able to receive must be maximized.

The BCRA has chosen to give the Service Rifle members two full days on 23-24 May leading up to the BC Service Conditions Championships 29-31 May. We have had pressure from other BCRA members, who shoot different firearms plus a military unit wanting the 23-24 May dates. Range Control has been very cooperative to keep the 23-24 and 29 to 31 May dates for you.

Now, we are urging that you consider supporting these two weekend dates to show Range Control that we are worthy of their support of our shooting programs. We need to support these two weekends to the fullest.

Please email Chris Ng at cng@fivengs.com if you are attending and have not entered yet. Don’t forget the walk back practice on Saturday 23 May.

Other shooting goodness through May/ June, and beyond:

07 June is Tac Shotgun, up at Thompson Mountain.

19-21 June is the BCRA Precision Rifle Championship, out at Vokes Range.

27-28 June, ATS will be hosting a 2 day shoot on Range 3, AFG, put on by Civil Advantage:

Vehicles are the one of the most common features of the modern operating environment. They can contain serious threats or provide life-saving cover. High risk vehicle stops are a fact of life for the law-enforcement professional. Many times officers aren’t aware the interaction is “high-risk” until fully engaged. In a military context, vehicles present a wide variety of options and advantages in the operating environment. It’s critical in any environment to understand as much about vehicles and vehicular-based interactions as possible.

Day one will feature a knowledge packed day of exploration and live fire scenarios. Day two will bring all the skills and knowledge into the Simunition© world. Similar scenarios as day one will be executed using actors including many “shoot, don’t shoot” situations.

This is a fast paced 2-day course designed to reinforce everything you know about high risk vehicle stops and operating in, out and around vehicles. There will be 4 vehicles on the range and opportunities to perform many drills not normally offered anywhere else. Don’t miss out.

21-22 November: ATS will be hosting Phase Line Green, for a Lowlight Pistol and Carbine course:

LOW LIGHT (2 DAY)

http://www.phaselinegreentactical.ca/low-light.php

Many shooters have the requisite skills to operate their firearms effectively in daylight or high visibility conditions however most have had little opportunity to employ these skills in low-light environments.  The introduction of darkness to any shooting scenario tends to compound the difficulty of manipulating the firearm, utilizing the environment and darkness tends to add to the overall stress experienced by the shooter.

This course is designed for the experienced shooter who may find the need to employ firearms in environments where light and visibility have been compromised. Fields of instruction will include daylight and low-light firearms operation, dry-fire and live fire drills with a focus on consistency of platform and procedure.

Day one will focus on various techniques surrounding the employment of pistols with white light utilizing light, darkness and the environment for concealment and force multiplication purposes.

Day two will encompass the use of both the pistol and carbine in low-light conditions.

Course participants will be operating on both an indoor and outdoor range environment so be prepared for inclement weather!

Topics will include:

  • Fundamentals of consistent pistol and carbine operation in daylight and low-light environments
  • Equipment choices, set-up and optimization
