IPSC TRAINING COURSE Mar21/22.15

I apologize for not sending in reports of TC from Dec2014, Jan & Feb 2015. All three courses had great crews of students and the usual support not only from AFGC but the assistant helpers, Robert C and Dean M. Without their, and the club’s support, IPSC BC growth would not be as great.

In 2013 the Club hosted 31 students, 40 in 2014 and, so far in 2015, 34. This will be a bang up year for the Club helping a large number of students become certified to shoot IPSC matches. These classes also certify the students for holster use anywhere holsters are used. That is a great testament to the quality and trust the IPSC TC provides.

This class was a bit smaller with 6 students which allowed us to cover the almost doubled round count in a reasonable amount of time while still adding more exercises than in the manual. I am hoping the next version of the manual includes unloaded gun starts, pick the gun up starts and how to retreat both strong and weak hand sides. Our classes include those items so students know what is coming at the matches.

A special thanks to Mike M of AFGC for making the now required door and ports for the course. This is yet another example of the strong support the entire club gives to this program.

Sat started with a downpour and produced sympathy for our student riding a motorcycle. The sun later was more than welcome but it doesn’t matter what nature throws at us, indoor range use makes it a non-issue.

Guns covered the spectrum of 2 CZ SP01, 1 1911, 1 Glock 17, 1 HK USP and a Sig226. All but one gun was 9mm Luger. One lefty and the rest righties. Only one student reloaded. These guys have too much money and can afford to buy ammo or I need to educate them about reloading;)

Robert C helped out and Dean M has joined us. Both bring a broad spectrum of information, experience and knowledge to the classes. Alastair H helped in this class and his expertise was welcomed.

Another outstanding group of students who showed they all had relatively deep backgrounds in firearms. We were pleased at their success and their attention to safety.

It was obvious this group got it that the TC first priority is SAFETY while learning to shoot a wide variety of skills; freestyle, strong hand, weak hand, reloads, kneeling, prone, movement and more that students may encounter in matches.

It is now up to them to attend not only IPSC matches but also steel, PPC, IDPA, etc. to improve on those skills learned in the class. Rob Engh can hone some of those skills at his Skills & Drills sessions as well.

The gear of this group was interesting. They brought out the gear they had from the background sports from which they came. Although not the usual IPSC stuff, they did well with it and now have a wider background on what they may wish to use in the future.

This group has to fit into the last 3 qualifiers, 2 in May at TMSA and one in June at Poco. After that, road trips to qualifiers as no more are currently scheduled in Metro Van until 2016, OUCH!

Bookings are already coming in for May 2015 and that is also when the competition season ramps up to full speed. If you want to get in this season, time to think seriously about joining a class.

I was not able to find time for classes in April as I have been booked for two intermediate/advanced 2 day weekend classes in Terrace and Nanaimo. It seems there may be sufficient interest in Metro Van for a similar course here. If you are interested let me know and we can see how that develops.

You can join this fast growing dynamic shooting sport by being a class graduate. Classes and more information can be found at http://mdgardner.com/extreme-pistol.htm#SCHED

I look forward to having you involved.
