New Recipients

Elisabeth Klassen – University of Victoria

My name is Elisabeth Klassen, and I am sixteen years old. I have been a member of the Abbotsford Fish and Game Club for six years.

When I was younger, my father used to take me and my family out shooting at the Abbotsford Fish and Game Club. I truly enjoyed these experiences, as they allowed me to bond with my family and spend time with my father. This is very valuable to me, because my father and I were and are often busy, so we didn’t often get a chance to connect as much as I would have liked. The Abbotsford Fish and Game Club allowed me a chance to do this.

I will be attending the University of Victoria in the fall, to get my Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering. I would like to thank the Abbotsford Fish and Game Club for helping me achieve my goals and work towards the future I want.

Kirsten ven der Buhs – University of Melbourne

My name is Kirsten ven der Buhs and I am currently pursuing my Doctors in Physiotherapy degree at the University of Melbourne. After completing my bachelors in Kinesiology I worked in Agassiz for 2 years doing exercise rehab. It was very fulfilling but I wanted to do more to help the people in my community. I saw there was a lack of health practitioners in the rural areas I decided that I wanted to work towards filling that role to provide the care that was needed.

I have been a member of the AFGC since I was in high school and being a part of this community has been a gift that I am so grateful for.  It has allowed me to continue practicing Archery and has been a place I can go to relax. The  AFGC has helped me to learn about the environment and furthered my awareness of the issues facing it and our local wildlife. They have also given me multiple opportunities to help and support as best as I can.

Outside of the AFGC, I’ve been involved in volunteering at community events. I helped organize face painting at BC Hydro’s Family Day, worked in the Medical Clinic at the BC Summer Games for students, and help with various fundraising and community building activities at my local church. I have also volunteered in tutoring programs with high school youth to aid them in their understanding of physics, math and chemistry. I also volunteer every weekend to help lead music ministry with youth from the church.

I am so grateful for the support of the AFGC. Their support has encouraged me in chasing my dreams, inspired me to continue doing my best and motivated me because I know I have my community behind me.

Scholarship Renewals

Sadie Baird – UBC

Hi, my name is Sadie Baird, I have been a member of the AFGC for 18 years now and participated in several 3D archery shoots when I was younger which started out my love for shooting and competition.

The AFGC post secondary bursary has helped tremendously in funding all university expenses from classes and books, to living!

At a promised renewal of a 75% GPA or higher, the AFGC scholarship helped me strive for success all year in many new and familiar fields such as Economics and French. Although sometimes struggling with unfamiliar subjects and concepts the end goal of a subsidized university cost, kept me pushing through!

I had so much fun as a first year student and am excited to see what the future holds! Thanks so much AFGC.

Tayler Bailey – UVic

My name is Tayler Bailey. I am 18 years old. I have been a member of the AFGC for about seventeen years and counting.

During the previous year at UVic, I was faced with many struggles.  Adjusting from high school to university is not an easy thing to do, especially after breaking my collarbone and sustaining more rugby injuries after that. I had a really hard time adjusting to school with only one arm for a few months, but I would like to thank the people at Abbotsford Fish and Game Club and any member who supports this scholarship because without all of the mental and financial support, the transition into university for myself and my family would have been a lot harder. With all of this support, I was able to really push myself and succeed as best as I could in my first year despite all the challenges that were thrown at me.

I am working towards getting my bachelor degree in social wok and continuing with my rugby journey at UVic. Thank you again to everyone who has helped and supported me. I am super excited for this upcoming year at UVic!

Congratulations! We wish you all success in your studies and years to come!
