Launching for the first time this year, Abbotsford Fish and Game Club offered a Post Secondary Scholarship Fund to Members of the Club. The objective is to encourage academic excellence and the pursuit of higher education among the membership of the Abbotsford Fish and Game Club.

3 scholarships were awarded this year for $4,000 for first year applicants, with a potential for up to $2,000 in subsequent years to a maximum of 4 years.

Below are this year’s recipients:

Sadie Baird – UBC

Hi, my name is Sadie Baird, I have been a member of the AFGC for 18 years now and participated in several 3D archery shoots when I was younger which started out my love for shooting and competition.

I come from a family of avid hunters and continually spend time at the range shooting in preparation for a clean harvest. I am also involved in many other sports both in school and community athletics which include volleyball, soccer and jump rope (skipping). Recently our jump rope team attended the World of Jump Rope Championships where we placed on the podium several times!

I also enjoy volunteering my time teaching kids the sports I love and have done several missions trips abroad to share my love of sport and kids, especially those less fortunate than me.

In the fall I will be attending UBC Vancouver campus taking Bachelor of Arts and majoring in International Relations with the goal of attending law school down the road and becoming a lawyer.

Tayler Bailey – UVic

My name is Tayler Bailey. I am 18 years old. I have been a member of the AFGC for about seventeen years and counting.

Life has become a little hectic in these recent years with school, work, university applications, etc., however I have always loved coming to the club with my family to get away from the craziness and to enjoy the archery range. Shooting my bow and arrow was my favourite thing, I can recall the joy it brought to me as a young archer and the excitement I still feel going there. AFGC will forever hold a special place in my heart and be a part of what has shaped me into who I am today.

I will be attending UVic in the fall of 2018 where I will be pursuing a degree in Psychology to one day become a genetic counsellor. I hope to work with special needs people as they have inspired me, throughout my whole entire life to live every single day to its fullest potential, to never take anything for granted and to always be happy.

Michael Plentis – TWU

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Abbotsford Fish and Game Club for the $4,000 Scholarship which I have been awarded. I am honored that you found my application worthy of this award. My family and I greatly appreciate your generosity and this money will help significantly in my expenses for the next school year.

I have been accepted to Trinity Western University where I plan to major in Business Administration. By not having the stress of having to work a part-time job while studying I will be able to involve myself with a variation of clubs, student leadership opportunities, and recreational leagues all thanks to the Abbotsford Fish and Game Club. After achieving my undergrad, I plan to pursue my Master’s in Business Administration.

Congratulations! We wish you all success in your studies and years to come!
