Local rivers:
Fraser River: tidal and non-tidal – even with high water and cloudy visibility the Fraser is still providing large numbers of big Sturgeon. DFO biologists are claiming, with lower than average precipitation and warmer water, the Sturgeon and Trout are being kept active this year! The lower river is producing just as many record virgins as the canyon fish! Use salmon parts, eels and lots of Sturgeon scents. Pike minnow being the top bait!
For the Trout – Krill, deli shrimp and roe sacks are the ticket. Use large baits now – at least until the freshet is over. Chinook closure is now in effect
Chilliwack/Vedder: nothing to report as angling is set to open July 1st. No Chinook angling!
Chehalis/Harrison: Chehalis – this watershed has not had a chance to rebound yet! Low water levels have prevented the summer runs and Chinook from returning; even the Trout fishing is rough. Do not overlook this fishery as they will both show soon! Harrison – is giving up great numbers of Cutthroat, Kokanee and Rainbows. Best baits are worms, krill, single eggs, fly patterns resembling fry and chrionomids! Best baits are jigs, worms, small crocks and spoons – spinners with gel scent!
Local lakes:
Kawkawa Lake: has slowed but still giving up kreels of fish! Fish it early mornings and late evenings with Krill , dew worms, single eggs and scented flies/jigs.
Grace Wolf, Deer Hicks and Stacey lakes are stocked and producing released Trout.
Interior lakes:
Horse, Timothy, Canim and Lac Lahache are all back on track. Chrionomid fishing is the choice of anglers (matching hatch sizes is important). Dry fly’s can be fun in the afternoons and look to angle with ‘small Thom B thumbs’. Elk hair caddies, damsels and may flies fish deep with a full sink: stripping booby patterns and gomphus patterns really late in the day. Aggressive fish will give themselves up! Be ‘patient’ and quiet!
Sheradon is a great bet as big fish being hooked. Chrionomid fishing and trolling with flies and worms.
Kentucky/Aylene/Bluey lakes were slow last week as the storms last week left hail and downed tree’s. The few fish that were hooked came in on quick fish lures tipped with earth worms.
Bose/Logan/Tunkwa lakes are back on track but you. Just match fly sizes and once again remember your worm supply accompanied with live crickets! They work.
