May was a good month for AFGC IPSC members! We saw some strong finishes at the May long weekend qualifiers – these matches proved to be as challenging as the match copy had led us to believe. Many of the stages presented multiple options on how to engage targets – while some of us made less than stellar choices on the options presented, both days were exceptionally fun and rewarding. Some notable finishes:
- Brennan Sheremeto – Classic division match winner: 100% Saturday, 100% Sunday!
- Mike McClelland – Standard division: 2nd place (97.37%) Saturday, 2nd place (98.13%) Sunday
- Curtis Young – Production division: 6th place (78.02%) Saturday, 5th place (83.68%) Sunday
Also, congratulations to our members who made classification changes following the May qualifiers:
- Curtis Young, Production – C to A
- Richard Whitman, Production – C to B
- Nathan Anderson, Standard – U to C
Brennan and I took a road trip up to Kamloops for an IPSC club match hosted by the Kamloops Target Sports Association – I managed to take 1st place in Standard Division, and Brennan managed 82.37% shooting his single stack in Standard division with the rest of us and our double-stack guns. It was a ton of fun, with great stages. The KTSA range is quite nice, with a number of pistol bays as well as a 600 meter rifle range and a great view of the valley.
June is light for IPSC activity in the lower mainland – aside from a one-day event at Port Coquitlam on June 7th, all the other matches are out of town – Fort St John, Prince Rupert, and Prince George all have double qualifier events in the month of June. Best of luck to those making the journey to visit our northern cohorts!
Skills and Drills attendance has been steady – Brennan and I have been running classes in Rob’s absence, as time allows. With good weather finally upon us, we’ll likely see some outdoor classes in the near future.
As a final note, I’ve accepted a nomination for the position of Section Coordinator for IPSC BC, the British Columbia section of IPSC Canada. Current IPSC BC members will be receiving information on the election process, and some information on the candidates should be posted on the IPSC BC website sometime over the weekend of June 13th. Brian McCoy, a fellow AFGC member and familiar face on the range at IPSC matches, has been nominated for the position of director for the lower mainland zone of IPSC BC. Brian and I both appreciate your support, and look forward to contributing towards our sport in British Columbia. We share some common ideas and goals, and welcome your input – please feel free to reach out to us with questions or comments!
