This TC was a little bit bigger and catered to a special interest group of shooters. They had organized their group to take this together and there was an added student to reach a class of seven. The weather Saturday was quite nice but Sunday brought home why indoor classes are more likely to succeed and more pleasant to shoot.
Guns covered the spectrum of CZ SP01, 1911, Glock 17, SW M&P Pro, two Norinco clones of the Sig226 and a lone Beretta P9X or such. All guns were in 9mm Luger, a first. One lefty and the rest righties. Interestingly, only one student reloaded at a friends. Either these guys have too much money and can afford to buy ammo or I need to educate them about reloading.
Robert C helped out and was our photog for the picture included. Always great to have Robert on hand with his extensive background in firearms as well as shooting IPSC.
The students proved their skills in shooting as accuracy wasn’t even a consideration. They hammered the A zones of their targets to shreds despite some sketchy heavy triggers. We were pleased at their success and their attention to safety. It was obvious this group got it that the TC first priority is SAFETY while learning to shoot a wide variety of skills; freestyle, strong hand, weak hand, reloads, kneeling, prone, movement and more that students may encounter in matches.
Remember, once the students have successfully completed the TC, they have achieved the highest level of holster qualification there is. It is now up to them to attend not only IPSC matches but also steel, PPC, IDPA, etc. to improve on those skills learned in the class. Rob Engh can hone some of those skills at his Skills & Drills sessions as well.
The gear of this group reflected their heavy interest in rifle shooting and they eyed the more IPSC oriented gear Robert and I wore for their future use. It will be interesting to watch them shoot their first qualifiers next year…UNLESS Abby holds an indoor before that…nudge, nudge;)
There is still one more class in 2014, Dec06/07 and some room left there. Bookings are already coming in for Jan2015 so watch for that date and more in 2015.
You can join this fast growing dynamic shooting sport by being a class graduate. Classes and more information can be found at http://mdgardner.com/extreme-pistol.htm#SCHED
