On Sunday April 2nd, the Abbotsford IPSC Club held its second Club Match of the year. The match was a combination of two indoor stages and two outdoor stages. There were 42 shooters that included both members and guests from other Clubs. The guiding theme behind this match was to provide the participants a way to evaluate their personal skill level at this point of the season. Once you completed the match you could see what skills need work. For the new shooter it was a place to start to develop a training plan to move forward. For the more experienced shooter with an existing training plan, they could modify it to focus on where they need to be better.
The stage designs included the following concepts:
Stage 1: challenged the decision process of the shooter. Move while shooting or stop to shoot. It also included the dreaded “Swinger”. We thank the Semiahmoo Fish and Game Club for lending us the use of their wooden swinger.
Stage 2: let the shooter know how well they could shoot 20 yard targets with the pressure of the timer. Do you take the challenge of using the minimum two rounds per target or spray down range and hope for a good score?
Stage 3: was a large stage with a healthy 32 round count. It was meant to provide lots of East – West movement with a fair number of reloads. It was redesigned at the last minute due to the water issues in Range 4.
Stage 4: was also a large stage with a 32 round count but with a North – South bias. To make things even more challenging the shooter started down range and shot the stage moving in a reverse direction towards the up range section of the stage. Which target to shoot when and where to do that reload?
We would very much like to thank everyone who helped us put on this match as without their valuable contribution, it would not have been possible. From supplying the much needed new stage infrastructure, construction of the stages, working the stages during competition and the after match stage cleanup. It is only possible with volunteer support.

We will be looking at building up our supply of equipment over the summer so that we can continue to put on more matches during the fall off-season. There will be calls out to volunteers to help with that.
In regards to the water on Range 4 and the low spots in and around there, perhaps it would be a good idea to look into a drainage system that can keep the water from pooling. I’m not sure what the solution would be, but I think it would be a good investment for the club.
