As you may or may not know, the RCMP are running a province wide gun amnesty program during the month of October 2016.
This is a program that will allow British Columbians, who have illegal or unwanted firearms, other weapons or ammunition, an opportunity to voluntarily surrender them to the police for safe disposal.
Something you should know about the RCMP program, you may not “drop-off” your firearms anywhere, the RCMP will have to attend your home address where they will take the firearms and ammunition from you. The guns turned into the RCMP will be destroyed even if they have historical significance or value.
But, did you know there are other options than having the police destroy your unwanted firearms? Some of these firearms may have historical significance or sentimental value and destroying them would be unfortunate.
Abbotsford Fish and Game Club is able to accept unwanted firearms and ammunition as a donation to the club. This is not something that is available only once every few years, but available year round.
If you or a family member has an expired PAL, or inherited a firearm from a loved one or even if you moved into a house and discovered a collection that was left behind, AFGC would graciously accept any donations and would be sure these firearms go to good use, like youth education programs, training exercises, or even just to keep as a part of history.
Please don’t hesitate to contact any one of our board members to get in touch with the right people, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, or leave a message at 604-852-4101 and we will be sure to get in touch with you about how to proceed with the donation.
