We’ve had a pretty easy winter at AFGC this year with the exception of the big windstorm, with mostly mild temperatures and some rain, which means we’ve had lots of members out using the ranges.

With that comes a small increase in complaints about range etiquette. The most common complaint has been about people handling firearms during a cease fire. It doesn’t matter if you know your gun is unloaded, you are not to touch ANY firearms during a ceasefire, that means no casing them, no putting trigger locks on them, nothing. If the light is green please leave your guns alone and wait until a red light is displayed before you touch them. If you’ve brought some guns without a case, you must wait until the range is hot before taking it off the line and back to your vehicle.

Another common complaint is people shooting forward of the firing line, this is allowed, if you are the only one there, or are shooting with others doing the same thing, we have a number of competitive shooters or law enforcement shooters who utilize more than just the static position on the concrete for their practices, but once others show up who are not going to shoot like that you MUST default back to shooting from behind the line on the concrete. You cannot be forward of the line when people are shooting. This should be common sense, but apparently it’s not. These are serious safety issues and people need to take them seriously.

Our AGM is coming up on March 10th and we need people, not just for the meeting, but to fill director spots. If you are interested in serving on the Board, and have been a member for at least five years, please let us know that you’d like to let your name stand for a position. We need member input to run this club, and this is your chance to let your name count.

As you may have noticed a bunch of work has been done on Range 2 with the new wall panels installed, target stands installed and a new bridge. There is still more work to be done, with lighting and an extension to the shooting shed, this will be ongoing during this year, so please watch the calendar for possible closures of the range for construction.

Thanks,
