Welcome to fall! We’ve had some interesting weather blow through already, and the club has handled it awesome. The roll up doors certainly make a big difference when it’s cold and windy, as do the heaters.
We unfortunately did have an negligent discharge recently that struck one of the rolled up doors on Range 2, this cost us over $2000.00 to fix. If you encounter any kind of jam or misfire with your firearm it is crucial to maintain a safe muzzle direction at all times while dealing with it. That means, not pointing it up and at our infrastructure. The only acceptable direction to point the gun is directly downrange.
I had hoped that with the constant reminders, signs and warnings, we wouldn’t need to bring this up again, but, Safety Glasses are REQUIRED on all ranges. It does not matter if you are not shooting and are just watching. If you are on the range, you MUST have safety glasses on. Period, End of story. As a result of the constant issues we are having with this we are going to explore making it mandatory that all members will have to take the safety course next year, not just new members. We simply cannot have people breaking such basic safety rules constantly, it places our membership and the club at great risk.

The member should cover the damage…..
I suggest a 3-month suspension for not wearing eye protection. Period….
Those who don’t wear safety glasses and safety ears should take safety courses not members who currently do wear safety gear end of story.
I agree, too. Members who violate the club’s safety rules—whether with respect to wearing required gear, or by unsafely handling and pointing their firearms—should take the safety course, rather than imposing the inconvenience of taking unneeded training on the membership as a whole. Further, the club should focus corrective effort on the deficient individuals, where it will be more effective, as opposed to dissipating the effort, and hence, the impact, where it isn’t needed.
I agree. Members who are already following the rules shouldn’t be forced to take a course.
With respect, vote “no” to making all members retake the safety course. Overkill at its worst.
This was a very serious issue, what if there was a member shooting in that direction ? The guy who made this mistake should be removed from the club , period.
I often saw members or guests sat at the bench while light is green , some even maneuvered with rifle … of course , I reminded them the rules of Cease Fire , but to me, seems like safety rules needed to be reinforced! Safety is ultimate important at the range !
Maybe one more sign! “Safety infractions will result in a 3 month suspension and taking the safety course again!”
