January 2016-2

We have a preliminary budget approval for purchases of additional 22 left handed rifles that can be used by the 22 Club. However, after contacting many suppliers and doing research in depth, YUCK!

Talking with Peter at Rusty Woods in Mission, if we re-sight a rifle that is not made to accept peep sights, it could cost more than the rifle is worth.

I have talked with Savage Canada on availability of their .22 models in left hand, and came across their “Rascal” series, which I was not aware of. Looking back at the open house, I remember some young kids trying to handle our heavy target rifles, and what a time they had. These “Rascals” are intended for youth, are shorter and lighter.

Once I have a handle on the actual costs and availability, the proposed budget modifications for these, if any, will be presented at the AGM. We need to remember that the 22 Club does not have a Firearms Business Licence, while the actual club now has. I do not know how the logistics of this was handled in the past.

Also, a reminder we have a lot of 22 long rifle available in Winchester available for sale, 222 and 555, etc. at $.05 per round, no tax – bring your PAL. The Winchester ammo do not agree with our target rifles, however they are no problem for many others. Canadian Tire price for a 555 is $39.99, or about $.08 per round, taxes included.

Another reminder – if you are coming out to shoot on a Monday evening, be sure to arrive before 7:00 PM. We cannot accommodate “drop-ins” that arrive after 7:00 PM.

We look forward to family shooting. Grandparents – bring your grandchildren out for a fun and safe family event – parents, bring your kids. Target shooting such as we do at AFGC is a very safe activity, safer than sending your kids to basketball, hockey, etc. where injuries are tolerated and acceptable.
