The APD Junior Police Academy allows students from various high schools in Abbotsford to spend their spring break learning what it is like to be a police officer. Students are carefully selected using their application package, a fitness test and a formal interview.

The program teaches students basic law, the different opportunities and sections within a police department, police control tactics/self-defence, and even a day at the firearm range. The week-long program ends with the students applying what they have learned during a scenario-based training day where they will be challenged as “police officers” to resolve problems.

All participants also receive a ride-along with a patrol police officer during a shift out on the road. The program is meant to provide a “glimpse” into a potential policing career and life at the police training academy.
