TacRifle 2016 Kick-Off: This Sunday

Well 2016 has started, everyone has survived Christmas and New Years. It’s time to dust off your rifle and take it for a spin! This Sunday’s match will be a low-key “off season” match. Perfect for brushing up your skills before the peak of the shooting season.

We have lots in store for 2016 and will be making a bunch of announcements at the match. Our TacMatch website is currently being re-designed, but everything will be properly posted up when our new website goes live as soon as possible. But anyone at the match will get a bit of a preview into the 2016 season.

Please arrive by 8am sharp. Because we have a few announcements and formalities to get through, it helps if everyone is on time and ready to go. One of the announcements will be that we are introducing a type of qualifier for TacMatch that will be mandatory for future participation in our matches. This is simply demonstrating that you are sufficiently competent to operate your firearm safely in a range of shooting positions and conditions without breaking our safety rules.

To facilitate a transition for all our long time participants we will fulfill this qualifier requirement included as a component of the next few matches. So experienced past participants can be qualified to participate without too much inconvenience. So nothing has really changed yet, but you do need to get out to one of these qualifiers in the next few months if you intend to participate in our big matches in the summer/fall. More details will be announced at the match and on our new website soon.

Because our website is down at the moment for redesign, no RSVP is required this weekend. But you can reply to this email with “I’m coming” so we get a rough head count.

What do I need to bring?

  • $25 match fee
  • Lunch or snacks and water. Don’t underestimate your need for hydration!
  • A reliable shoulder-mounted semi-auto center-fire firearm (AR-15, XCR, Tavor, etc.. pistol caliber carbines ok too)
  • 6 or more 5 round magazines (each stage may require up to 26 rounds, 6 or more magazines gives you a spare one in case you fumble or have a malfunction)
  • Alternatively, if your firearm accepts pistol magazines… 4 or more 10 round magazines. (NOTE: The TMSA club does not currently permit the use of Beowolf mags on their property due to an abundance of caution)
  • Minimum of 120 rounds of ammunition (150+ rounds recommended if you are not a “perfect shot”) NO STEEL CORE AMMO.
  • High Visibility Chamber Flag (CTC Supplies usually has some onsite for a minimum $2 donation to a good cause)
  • Eye Protection
  • Hearing Protection
  • Quality boots or shoes (It can get muddy and the ground is not even – hiking boots are great!)
  • Load bearing gear to hold 5+ magazines (cargo pants with leg pockets can work if you’re new, they’ll just be slower than a dedicated belt or chest rig)
  • Appropriate outdoor clothing – we shoot rain or shine
