LOCAL RIVERS

The Fraser: is extremely low and clear. Keep a close eye on your “draft” while under power. Sturgeon have picked up again since it has warmed up. Best baits are: roe and fish parts. Harrison/Chehalis steelhead being hooked in the Fraser; look for obvious ruffles to float fish.

Vedder: Steelhead are here once again. Conditions are low and very clean! Adjust your gear sizes accordingly, small is best until thaw occurs! Use small roe sacks, raw shrimp trimmed to about pea size, use your spinners in conjunction with water speed and depth. Choose small jigs with flash or dressed with prawn tails/rubber twisters and/or maribou. If you are float fishing keep baits near bottom as they are lethargic!

Boxing Day Derby on the Vedder, 15 steelhead weighed in:

  • Rod Toth – 13.93 lbs
  • Daniel Ryan – 13.43 lbs
  • Kelly Michaldski – 12.54 lbs
  • Trevor Henderson – 12.06 lbs
  • Steve Roseboom – 10.97 lbs
  • Steve Grimaldi – 10.26 lbs
  • Steve Schoenfelder – 10.25 lbs
  • Ryan Hutchinson – 9.38 lbs
  • Sam Peacock – 10.21 lbs
  • Jim Coers – 9.7 lbs
  • Cody Sajoka – 9.66 lbs
  • Wayne Lille’s – 9.52 lbs
  • Clayton Jones – 8.75 lbs
  • Jeremy Ross – 8.75 lbs
  • Ryder Gienow – 8.59 lbs
Congratulations to all the anglers for braving the weather conditions!

Chehalis: fish being taken both sides of the bridge, conditions are low and clear. You will have to approach runs with stealth! Bait is best, small jigs and spinners. Chehalis still producing dark Coho, I cannot stress enough to use small hooks and baits.

Squamish: is also having a great early season for Steelhead. Access is limited and treacherous. Plan around tidal changes, use krill-roe where you can and spinners, jigs and wool.

Seymour: Closed to Angling until further notice!

Local Lakes: slow and down with cold weather. A few rainbows and cutthroats where it is ice free. Best baits are krill-roe or single eggs.

Interior Lakes: just starting now.
