Earlier this month the Abby IPSC Team held their first indoor Club Match for members. The original date had been snowed out, but we were able to reschedule for Family Day Monday. As this was an all indoor match the logistics of how this was going to accommodate all of the shooters in an efficient amount of time all came down to organization and volunteer participation.

We had 28 shooters out for the day ranging from new Black Badge graduates to veteran IPSC shooters and everyone in between. Nearly all Divisions were represented including Production, Standard, Classic and even Revolver. We did not have any Open shooters this time, and may have been a blessing as you know how loud those guns can get indoors! Unfortunately due to the massive amounts of snow we had over the previous week, our indoor heating was on the fritz so it was a tad bit cold, but everyone was a good sport and kept their spirits high.

There were 6 stages in total with 3 setup side-by-side in the morning, a quick teardown over lunch with 3 more in the afternoon. Some challenging stages were created to truly showcase this as a skills match and to help everyone brush the dust off their gear from a long winter. There were many precision shots with tough no-shoot placements, double stacked target arrays, mini targets and even a prone position that tested the skills of not only the newcomers to the sport but also presented a challenge to the more experienced shooters. Starting positions ranged from unloaded starts, table starts, up-range starts and grasping starts, many of the positions we need to practice for this season’s qualifiers, provincials and nationals.

We’d like to thank all volunteers who were able to help with building the stages and some new walls and stands that the club desperately needed. Special thanks to Scott Matwishyn for building our new stands which worked out perfectly, Bobby Tomlinson for building the new walls, and Brian Connors and Geoff Fraser for organizing the match and designing the stages. Everything went off without a hitch!

Because of the positive feedback we received from everyone, we will be trying to have some small club matches as a regular thing, and expand outside as the weather warms up. As always we are looking for volunteers to help out with the organization and execution of the matches. Stay tuned for more match updates.
