The AGM for 2016 has come and gone, I would like to thank everyone who came out to the meeting on Thursday, numbers were down a bit from last year, there were 79 in attendance, which I hope means people are happy with how the club is being run. If you do have any questions or concerns regarding the club, please do not hesitate to contact me, or any of the Directors at the club, I can be reached at president@afgc.ca or info@afgc.ca and a full list of directors is available on the website under the Contact Us tab.

I would also like to welcome John Alegg on as a new 2 year director and retiring VP Rod Giltaca back as a 2 year director. Due to our increase in directors last year we now have 13 directors plus sub-club heads (also considered as directors), our Executive, President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer and finally Membership, Public Relations and Systems Support (also acting directors). As I mentioned above, any of these people can be contacted if you have any questions or concerns.

With the large number that are going to roll off next year we will need to come up with a better solution than electing 11 directors one year and 2 the next to make it a bit more even, as such we will be forming another constitutional reform committee to see what solutions to this as well as some housekeeping, we can come up with to present at the AGM next year. Regarding the AGM next year, we’ve had a lot of people ask if we could move it to a Saturday afternoon instead of a Thursday night, so we will be exploring that option as well.

Congratulations to the following members Ryan K. and Dave M. for winning the annual draw at the AGM on Thursday night. They were chosen at random draw with entries submitted from attending workbees during the 2015 year. Each member will receive 1 year free membership renewal.

Probably the biggest thing to come out of this year’s meeting was our budget, it is our largest ever. $600,000+ for special projects and renovations around the club and potentially a lot more if we can secure more land. This is so exciting to me it’s hard to describe, like many of the old timers in the club I remember when our year budgets were less than $15,000 a year and we were constantly watching the bank balance hover over zero. That we now have a solid fund in the bank and the income to drive real improvements makes me very happy.

We will also be launching a member satisfaction survey in the next couple weeks, which will tie in with more membership renewal giveaway prizes, so keep a lookout in your inbox!

So once again, thank you all that attended, thank you to all those who have volunteered to help, we have an awesome year ahead of us.

Rob Engh,
President, AFGC
