AFGC 2026 Scholarship Recipients

I am forever grateful and proud to be one of the AFGC scholarship recipients. In the upcoming years, I will be attending Kwantlen Polytechnic University to study Health Sciences in hopes to pursue my goal of becoming a veterinarian. Through the support of AFGC, the scholarship will attenuate the financial burden as I will most likely have to move provinces for veterinary school.

I am excited for the journey ahead of me and will never forget the opportunity Abbotsford Fish and Game Club provided me.

I am incredibly honoured and grateful to have been selected as a recipient of the Abbotsford Fish and Game Club Scholarship. I would like to sincerely thank the AFGC for its generosity and continued support of students pursuing their educational goals. 

This fall, I will be entering my second year of Geological Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Through my studies and first co-op experience, I have developed a strong interest in the mining industry, particularly in helping ensure that mineral resources are developed safely, efficiently, and with respect for the environment. My goal is to build a career in mining where I can contribute to responsible resource development while promoting sustainable practices that protect the landscapes and ecosystems future generations will enjoy.

My time at the Abbotsford Fish and Game Club has been incredibly meaningful. Learning archery has been one of the most rewarding experiences, teaching me patience, discipline, and focus while introducing me to a welcoming community of members who share a passion for the outdoors. Being part of the club has also given me a greater appreciation for conservation and the importance of preserving our natural resources. These experiences have reinforced my desire to pursue a career that balances engineering, resource development, and environmental stewardship.

This scholarship will help ease the financial demands of university, allowing me to focus more of my time and energy on my coursework, co-op opportunities, and professional development. I am truly grateful for the AFGC’s investment in my future and look forward to applying the knowledge and skills I gain to make a positive impact in the mining industry and the communities it serves. First of all, I would like to extend my profound thanks to the AFGC for allowing me to be the
recipient of this scholarship. Being a part of the AFGC is a wonderful experience, and I am so
grateful for their generosity and support, as well as for the facilities they offer

My name is Landon Vandelft and I have been a member of AFGC since 2017. This next school
year, I plan to pursue my career aspirations with Okanagan college in their civil engineering
program, and afterward I hope to secure a job in that field, a job that blends office work and field
work. Receiving this scholarship will allow me to focus more on my studies and stress less
about potential financial problems that will surely come.

I am excited to explore the opportunities this scholarship provides, as well as the challenges I
am now able to overcome. Thank you to the AFGC for their support and generosity!

I am incredibly pleased to share that I have successfully completed my second year at the University of British Columbia and am moving into my third year of study.

This year, I officially began my bachelors of science specialization “Fundamental Biology of Human and Animal Health Across Development and Aging,” bridging areas of Neurobiology with Immunology and Pathogenesis. Having this path that reflects my interests has made my coursework very rewarding.

Beyond the classroom, I began volunteering at a senior home on the weekends, spending my Saturdays and Sundays conversing and working with humorous and caring seniors. It has been deeply fulfilling and has given me a new set of skills I carry into my daily life. 
 
The continued support from the Abbotsford Fish and Game Club has been a true blessing for my success. By alleviating financial pressures, this scholarship has allowed me to focus on my demanding schoolwork, while allowing me to pursue many impactful things that benefit the community and those around me. 
 
I am deeply grateful to the AFGC membership for their ongoing support of me and for being such an integral part of my university journey and growth within the community. Thank you for this incredible opportunity!

I recently completed my third year at the University of British Columbia, where I am majoring in Psychology and minoring in Education. My goal is to pursue a Master’s degree in Counselling and eventually work in a therapeutic setting supporting children and youth.

The AFGC’s support has allowed me to focus on my studies full-time and achieve success in my courses. In addition, it has also given me the opportunity to dedicate more time to gaining valuable experience in my field.

I currently volunteer as a research assistant and work as an events coordinator for a UBC mental health awareness club, two roles that I have been able to commit to thanks in part to the support provided by AFGC. Looking ahead, I am especially excited to be studying abroad in Sydney, Australia next fall, where I hope to continue growing both academically and personally.

I have just completed my third year of Electrical Engineering at UBC Okanagan and will be
starting my fourth year this September.

This past year was especially rewarding because I had the opportunity to take courses that
aligned with my interests and gave me a deeper understanding of the areas of engineering I
enjoy most. These courses helped me strengthen both my technical knowledge and
problem-solving skills.

The AFGC scholarship has been a tremendous help in making university more affordable, and I
am very grateful for the support it provides. It has allowed me to focus more on my studies and
make the most of my time at UBC Okanagan.

Outside of school, I enjoy skiing, hiking, and spending time outdoors. These activities help me
relax, maintain a healthy balance, and recharge while working through a demanding
engineering program.

As I begin my fourth year of Electrical Engineering at UBC Okanagan, I am excited for the
opportunities and challenges ahead. I am sincerely thankful for the support from the AFGC
scholarship, which has helped me get to where I am today in my degree.

I would like to start off by thanking the Abbotsford Fish and Game Club for supporting and giving me this opportunity. This scholarship has lessened the financial burden and has given me more time to study and explore interests. 

I have completed my first year of Recreation, Fish and Wildlife Technology at Selkirk College. So far it has been an amazing experience and learning opportunity. Majority of my classes are hands on and in the field, taking measurements, data, locations, and notes. Part of my first year program was field school where we worked on wetland restoration and trail building. We were also given the opportunity to complete the electrofishing ticket and start the lakewater canoeing certification (to be finished in 2nd year field school). Thank you once again for this scholarship, it is an honor to receive it.

I have just completed my third year at SFU’s Beedie School of Business, where I am
pursuing my Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Driven by my passion for
launching my own fashion brand, Pacific Gear, I recently declared my concentration in
Innovation and Entrepreneurship. With AFGC’s generous support, I have been able to
continue my coursework, develop essential business skills, and leverage SFU’s networking
opportunities to position myself for success. As such, I am deeply grateful to AFGC for
easing my financial burdens, supporting my BBA studies, and empowering me to turn my
dream of becoming an entrepreneur into a reality.

I am looking forward to continuing into my fourth year of studies at SFU this fall, and would
like to once again thank AFGC for supporting my post-secondary journey!

This past year of classes was challenging, but nonetheless very rewarding. The highlight of the year was completing both Econ 101 and 102 in the same semester. Economics was a field I had no prior knowledge in and I feared the numerical aspects of it would be difficult to overcome. These courses, while a big challenge, turned out to be the most enjoyable courses I’ve taken across both years of my studies here at UBC.

The AFGC scholarship has been a major part of this success so far, allowing me to focus much more of my time into my studies.

I would like to sincerely thank the Abbotsford Fish and Game Club for awarding me this generous scholarship. As I enter my final year at BCIT in Metal Fabrication and prepare to write my Red Seal exam, this support means more to me than words can express. The kindness and generosity shown by our club and its members will help me continue pursuing my trade with confidence and focus.

Being part of a club that invests in its members and their futures is truly special, and I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity. I look forward to earning my Red Seal and using the skills I have gained to give back and contribute to the club that has supported me so generously.

I’ve just completed my third year at SFU and will be starting my fourth year this fall. I’m currently working towards a major in Computing Science.

Over the past year, I completed the remainder of my lower division requirements, had the chance to explore more advanced topics like Database Systems, and even took on a special topics course in AI research. My fourth year will be the hardest yet, as the only remaining courses left to complete are all very specialized. 

Thanks to the support of the AFGC, however, I’ll be able to put all of my time towards the difficult courses to come. I’m very grateful for the opportunities the AFGC has provided, and I look forward to the rest of my schooling with their support.
